    More info on the band:
Sweet songs with a viscious egde, that's how the music of Finn Silver can be described. For 'Crossing the Rubicon', Finn Silver's debut album, initiators Mark Berman (producer/composer) and Fridolijn van Poll (leadsinger/lyricist) were able to get a combination topmusicians on board of the project, resulting in a unique Amsterdam - London - Berlin connection.
Londonbased drummer Richard Spaven (Jose James/Flying Lotus/Cinematic Orchestra) is collaborating with the dutch king of free jazz, upright bass player Ernst Glerum. Bass player Glenn Gaddum Jr. and Pianist Daan Herweg (Caro Emerald) were closely involved in the writing process, just as 21 year old rising saxophone-star Ben van Gelder.
Early 2011 the band finished their debut album which was recorded in Berlin, by Axel Reinemer, member of the legendary Jazzanova collective. Crossing the Rubicon was officially released om May 23 2011.
With a strong band, an special liveshow that contains beautiful video-art and a killer of an album in their hands Finn Silver is ready to hit the festivals and stages in 2011.
"…Crossing the Rubicon is like a pop jazz record that fell out of the heavens, doing justice to the legacy of great vocal jazz records. It’s a torch-bearer kind of album." nahhoe.wordpress.com

about

Sweet songs with a viscious edge... Light as a feather Finn Silver is taking you along the deep cliffs of dark jazz and ... more mysterious singer/songwriter melodies. Or as Jazzanova likes to say it: "wonderful jazz-pop-songs that are light on the ear, but full of fascinating details". less

Track Name: Fertile soil
All the sources running dry
heading home, left alone
so long the try

Now the flame, now the fire
is blown out
no lighter to find....

Let me tell you
the high ain't so high
if you don't know the deep
the sweet ain't so sweet
without the bittering taste of weep.

When the wildfires 've burned to dust
the only thing that's left behind at last,
left behind in the end
is Fertile Soil

We're running, rolling, reaching
for the same thing, all over again
we're running, rolling
we are reaching for the same old thing
over and over again

all over again, over again, over again
will it ever end?
Track Name: Sitting on Shore
Saturday morning
'round 8 am
awaking daylight
quiet streets in Amsterdam.
Sitting in my window
watch people go by
some of them just got up
some lost, some stuck in friday night

Saturday evening
round 8pm
lights turn into dusk
buzzing streets in Amsterdam
Sitting in my window
watch people go by
see them going all dressed up
some lost, some stuck in twilight

Life is like a river,
a never ending flow
I'm watching from my window
sitting on shore
life is like a river,
a never ending flow
I'm watching from my window
sitting on shore

Saturday morning
oh the world never stops
turning 'round behind our backs
nothing we have got to say
ordinary people
living daily lives
all that we can do is
get the best out of the day

Saturday evening
oh the world never stops
turning 'round behind our backs
nothing we have got to say
ordinary people
living daily lives
all that we can do is
get the best out of the day

Life is like a river,
a never ending flow
I'm watching from my window
sitting on shore
life is like a river,
a never ending flow
I'm watching from my window
sitting on shore...
Track Name: Lies Within
she looked at me
she looked at me
with her big brown eyes

on moments least expected, most desired, dearly needed
she arrives

Her hair slightly gray
Her vision as clear as the sky

Together we walked in the park for some hours
Watching the blossom grow pink little flowers
she said:
You can travel the world the seven seas,
but It's closer than you'd think...

Chorus:
No perfect world, just perfect lies, she said to me
the burning light, that makes you shine
lies within

Burning dreams,
that are hitting me so suddenly
Blinded by the lights of all the sideways
that reveal in front of me

which one will be the best?
will hit dead end, or miss out on the rest?
The tree is growing flowers in cycles of the seasons,
clouds wonder 'round, not asking for reasons
but I want to escape the herd, leave the beaten paths.
Make sure that I'm not missing out, or settle for less.
I will travel the world the seven seas
to find the answers that I need

Chorus
No perfect world, just perfect lies, just perfect dreams.
the burning light, that makes you shine lies within
No perfect world, just perfect lies, just perfect dreams.
the burning light, that makes you shine

Don't. Don't you let the hunter,
don't let the hunter become the hunted
you will never know where all the sideways lead
what matters is the path
the path you choose to walk

on moments least expected, most desired, dearly needed
she arrives...
Track Name: Play with fire
I watch your hand reach out for mine
please don't tell me what is on your mind

come rain come shine,
rain or shine

words so useless,
we're down to the basics of body language

play with fire
come rain, come shine
rain or shine

Tensions ignite
on the edge of knife
heartbeat rythms arise
tensions flying high
we play with fire

you strike my hair,
electricity fills the air
don't you say it no, don't you dare
in this zone we don't care

we play with fire
come rain, come shine
rain or shine

tensions high, dancing on the edge of a knife
challenging the devil in disguise

we play with fire
come rain, come shine
rain or shine

Tensions ignite
on the edge of knife
heartbeat rythms arise
tensions flying high
we play with fire

Tensions ignite
on the edge of knife
heartbeat rythms arise
tensions flying high
we play with fire

Tensions ignite
on the edge of knife
heartbeat rythms arise
tensions flying high
we play with fire
Track Name: Kidnapped by Butterflies
I surrender, all other options put aside
take me flying, nothing I can do
but enjoy the ride
I'm kidnapped by butterflies
destination unknown
a soft landing is all there is left to hope for

Love me
Feel me
Take me
Hold me

I'm a puppet
dancing on your strings
take me flying
nothing I can do
flying without wings
following every swing
lift me up, spin me up round
but where will we be when the music is turned down?

Love me feel me play me obey me
just as long as you're around
don't care if you do right or wrong
wanna feel your body, hear your sound
I'm an addict, you're my drug
wanting more every time
I'm a puppet on your strings
please be gentle with me...
Track Name: Way Home
The wolves have gone to sleep
the fire left to smoulder
weapons put to rest
memories in minds of the beholders
stones turned into feathers
flying calmly off your shoulders

No more battles left to fight
no more bulleting the skies
the unspoken said and done
now that the storm has gone
the dust will settle down
and find its way home

The wolves have gone to sleep
the eagles headed home
pieces falling back into place
resilience once again shown
the cards have been reshuffled
revealing new ways that lead to rome

No more battles left to fight
no more bulleting the skies
the unspoken said and done
the thunderstorm has gone
the dust will settle down
and find its way home
way home
Track Name: Little Did I Know
Right foot left foot
straight ahaid, good look around
for the very last time

I'm burning all my ships behind
unbothered by past or time
thought I had won
it only just begun
little did I know

Freedom, key that I needed
took it and treated it like it was mine
I'll never be locked up, I swore
in cycles, circeling cycles no more

limits seemed to fade
boundaries decayed
future on my side

Freedom key that I needed
took it and treated it like it was mine
doors were opening
rules got broken in seconds
this is my chance
I'll never be locked up I swore
in cycles circeling cycles
I'll take a run
jump in the deep
awakened from a long sleep

No strings attached
I'm starting from scratch
point of no return

Right foot left foot
crumbling slumbering thoughts
what lines should be drawn
something so wrong
something so strong
something I've awaited for so long

the uncountable options got in the way
betrayed by time, trapped in space
I found there is nowhere to jump
only a massive mountain to climb

The rooftop ahead became focus instead
limits seemed to fade
boundaries decayed
times had finally changed...
